
John West co-founded Flatrock Wealth Partners in 2022. He brings over twenty-five years of investment experience. John is a member of the Flatrock Management and Investment Committees and is involved in all aspects of the firm’s operations, investment management functions and client experience.
Previously, John spent fifteen years at Research Affiliates, a global asset manager known for its work in asset allocation and equity indexing. John led virtually all aspects of client facing and product management functions driving growth in assets under management from $15 billion to a peak of $205 billion. John also worked closely with financial advisors on a number of firm initiatives including the development of multi-asset model portfolios with tax loss harvesting. He launched the Advisor Symposium, the firm’s first dedicated client educational conference; working with leading academics and practitioners to develop robust insights for wealth managers and multi-family office allocators.
A recognized thought leader, John’s original research and publications have been cited in Barron’s, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Institutional Investor, InvestmentNews and Advisor Perspectives. He also co-authored Fundamental Index: A Better Way to Invest (Wiley 2008) an honorable mention award winner at the American Publishers Awards for Professional and Scholarly Excellence (The PROSE Awards).
Prior to Research Affiliates, John spent ten years at Wurts & Associates (now Verus), a national institutional investment consulting firm. At Wurts, he managed the firm’s overall research effort and served as lead advisor to over $1.7 billion in client assets.
Mr. West graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in Finance. He earned the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of the CFA® Society of Orange County.
